HAMMONTON – MainStreet Hammonton along with the downtown merchants will host the 10th annual Downtown Trick or Treat from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 17. The rain date is Oct. 24.
Local businesses will hand out treats to children and offer child-friendly activities, including face painting, crafts and games run by the students of the St. Joseph High School Interact Club. There will be a costume contest for children and pets, with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Reagan Rock at the corner of Bellevue and Central avenues. Children entering the costume contest will choose their category — scariest, most creative, best group and cutest. Pets will be judged for a first-, second- or third-place prize.
“We are excited to announce that we will have a Happy Haunted House this year on Central Avenue,” said Kerry Hallman, event coordinator and owner of Hammonton Martial Arts. “Chatter’s Basket, Hammonton Family Success Center and the Alcohol and Drug Alliance offered to sponsor and run this new attraction and this is sure to add some additional fun to the festivities.”
There is no cost to trick-or-treat. The business owners provide treats for the day. Last year, more than 600 costumed children walked Bellevue Avenue and participated in the crafts and games.
“This event offers a way for the merchants to show their appreciation to the community for shopping local,” said Hallman. “This annual tradition is always a hit. It’s a special day for Downtown Hammonton.”
Festivities will be held from Third Street to Egg Harbor Road along Bellevue Avenue. Your Way DJs will play child-friendly music at Central Avenue.
The sponsors for this year’s event are Hammonton Martial Arts, Capital Bank and Upgrade Tutoring. For more information, contact MainStreet Hammonton at (609) 567-9014 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
