Boys’ basketball

Dec. 18

Hammonton 69, Wildwood 51 – Marsoreez Bassett netted 16 point and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils to a season-opening victory. Peyton Mortellite chipped in with 15 points and Josh Trouche added 10.

Hammonton started strong with an 18-7 first quarter. The Blue Devils increased their lead to 24 by halftime.

Dec. 22

Williamstown 48, Hammonton 40 – Bassett led all Blue Devil scorers with 11 points Mortellite added 10, but it wasn’t enough as Hammonton dropped its first game of the year.

The Blue Devils had nine different players score, but a sluggish second quarter cost the team as Williamstown took a six-point halftime lead with a 14-7 period.

Dec. 27

Mainland 55, Hammonton 26 – Jalen Horsley scored a team-high six points for Hammonton, which dropped its second straight game.

Dec. 30

Hammonton 42, Delsea 37 – Horsley scored a game-high 12 points and Bassett and Mortellite netted 10 apiece as the Blue Devils snapped a two-game losing streak.

Jan. 2

Schalick 66, Hammonton 63 – Mortellite led all Hammonton scorers with 19 points in the team’s loss to the Cougars. The Blue Devils scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, but their comeback bid fell short.

Coming up – The Blue Devils are at Highland on Jan. 7 before hosting Triton on Jan. 12.

Girls’ basketball

Dec. 18

Cumberland 44, Hammonton 31 – Sara Peretti scored a team-best 14 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils dropped their season-opener to the Colts.

Hammonton enjoyed a 16-12 halftime lead, however were outscored 15-3 in the third quarter.

Dec. 22

Hammonton 41, Williamstown 28 – Peretti led all scorers with 21 points to give Hammonton its first win of the season. McKenna Forry added six points and Dominique Minvera chipped in five.

Dec. 29

Hammonton Tournament

ACIT 48, Hammonton 28 – Macie Amoirello led Hammonton with seven points, but the team never recovered from being on the short end of a 12-2 score after the first quarter. Peretti scored six points and Forry added five.

Dec. 30

Hammonton Tournament

Nazareth (Pa.) 42, Hammonton 32 – Peretti scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Hammonton, which dropped its second consecutive game. Forry scored seven points and registered nine rebounds and two blocks.

Hammonton held a halftime lead, but Nazareth outscored the Blue Devils 29-15 over the final two quarters.

Coming up – The Blue Devils host Highland on Jan. 7 before traveling to Glassboro the next night and then Triton on Jan. 12.

Wrestling

Dec. 19

Millville 39, Hammonton 33 – Nicholas Melhado (120 pounds), Vaughn McFerrin (145), Brian McCarty (152) and Cameron DiGiovannagelo (heavyweight) all recorded pins for Hammonton.

William Boyle (132), Dan Figueroa (160), and Tom Donio (220) all won with decisions in the loss.

Voorhees 39, Hammonton 33 – McCarty (152), Brett Beebe (182) and Hakeem Parker (heavyweight) all won by pin in the setback.

Anthony Roman (113), Melhado (120) and Andrew Mays (126) won decisions.

Washington Twp. 36, Hammonton 31 – Hammonton’s upper weights got the job done against the Minutemen, as Robert Morales (195), Donio (220) and DiGiovannagelo (heavyweight) all picked up pins in the loss.

Figueroa (160) picked up a major decision and David Diaz (138) won by decision.

Dec. 22

Camden Catholic 43, Hammonton 24 – Figueroa (160) and Parker (heavyweight) registered first period pins for the Blue Devils. Roman (106) and McFerrin (145) won decisions.

Dec. 29

Overbrook Tournament – Mays won the 120-pound title with three wins, including a major decision over Mainland’s Will Carmona in the championship match. Mays also registered a pin in the opening round and a decision in the semifinals.

Roman (106), McFerrin (145) and Donio (220) all won two matches before falling in their respective finals. Figueroa (160) bounced back from a semifinals loss to finish in third place.

Coming up – Hammonton hosts Kingsway on Jan. 6 before hosting the Hammonton Duals on Jan. 9. The event will feature Cumberland, Pennsville, Gateway, Ocean City, Rancocas Valley, Riverside and Winslow.

Girls’ bowling

Dec. 3

GCIT 4, Hammonton 0 – The Blue Devils’ Marisa Nocito recorded a 195-high game in a 501 series for the Blue Devils. Nocito also added a 169 game.

Dec. 7

Salem 3, Hammonton 1 – The Blue Devils won the third game, 547-481, as Nocito rolled a 150 and Grace Wilson added a 130.

Dec. 9

Gloucester 3, Hammonton 1 – Hammonton edged Gloucester, 564-546, in the opening game, as Geanna Serechia rolled a 149. Nocito had the team’s best score of the day with a 181 in a 456 series.

Dec. 17

Egg Harbor Twp. 4, Hammonton 0 – Nocito registered a 171 high-game in a team-best 411 series for the Blue Devils.

Coming up – Hammonton is at GCIT on Jan. 7 and at Salem on Jan. 11.

Dec. 3

Hammonton 3, GCIT 1 – Joe DiCarnillo led Hammonton with a match-best 225 in Game 3 and a team-best 530 series. Mike Heredia rolled a high game of 183 for a 484 series. Alex Launutti registered a high game of 186 in a 481 series.

Dec. 7

Hammonton 4, Salem 0 – Thomas Mature rolled a 220 and a 204 during a 601 set to lead the Blue Devils. Nicholas Palermo registered a high game of 207 in a 537 set, and Launutti recorded a 204 in a 506 set.

Dec. 9

Hammonton 4, Gloucester 0 – Launutti rolled a 235 and a 232 in a 645 set to lead Hammonton. Mature scored a high game of 209 in a 540 set, and Palermo rolled a 206 in a 512 set.

Dec. 15

Deptford 4, Hammonton 0 – Heredia rolled a season-best 266 in a 547 set, but the Blue Devils suffered their first loss of the season.

Dec. 17

Egg Harbor Twp. 4, Hammonton 0 – Mature rolled a team-best 197 in a 540 set, but the Blue Devils dropped their second straight game. DiCamillo rolled a 194 in a 537 set.

Dec. 21

Hammonton 4, Gloucester Catholic 0 – The Blue Devils got back on the winning track as Mature rolled a 215, 197 and a 193 in a 605 set. Heredia rolled a team-best 235 high game in a 528 set, and Launutti scored a 202 and a 198 in a 578 set.

Coming up – The Blue Devils are at GCIT on Jan. 7 and at Salem on Jan. 11.
