HAMMONTON - Excitement filled the air at this year’s Hammonton Easter Eggstravaganza. Crowds lined the sidewalks along Bellevue Avenue and Second Street to enjoy the many events offered on Friday.
The first event of the day was a chance to meet the Easter Bunny at Sassy Sweets, where children eagerly lined up for candy and pictures. They were then invited to dance with the Easter Bunny during the bunny hop.
“I had a lot of fun dancing with the kids,” said Isabella Massey, 17, who played the Easter Bunny.
Outside the Toy Market, the great egg drop was in full swing. In a mad frenzy, participants rushed to create a secure design to protect an egg from being broken when dropped from a ladder.
Megan Cortellessa, 18, of Hammonton, an employee of the Toy Market, said she was thrilled when she was told that she would be the one participating in this year’s egg drop.
“I always wanted to be the person to drop the egg,” she said.
After an hour and a half of egg dropping, only a couple dozen eggs wrapped in their cushioned designs survived to make it into the final round. Whoever dropped an egg that didn’t crack, became a winner.
For the final round, Cortellessa moved from the ladder to the roof to drop the remaining eggs. Only two designs ended up being secure enough to protect their eggs from cracking.
The first winner was Noah England, 9. He was up from Virginia visiting family and decided to try the egg drop on a whim. The other winner was Emma DeStefano, 4, of Hammonton. Each winner won a $25 gift card to the Toy Market.
Some of the other happenings during the Eggstravaganza included crafts, face painting, treats from numerous eateries and music provided by CF Star Entertainment.
The Eggtravaganza was sponsored by the Toy Market and Ocean City Home Bank and was coordinated by Mainstreet Hammonton and downtown businesses. For more information on upcoming events in Hammonton, please visit www.downtownhammonton.com
