HAMMONTON - Monday was party day for the seniors at the Hammonton Family Success Center as they celebrated not only Halloween, but also all of those with birthdays in October.
People found it hard to believe that Rita Smith was celebrating her 98th birthday as she looked wonderful for her age. Smith said she has no desire to sit at home, but she prefers to stay active. The daily trips to the Hammonton Family Success Center help her to do that. “I like coming out and seeing people” said Smith.
Since it wasn’t only birthdays being celebrated, Dolores Kramer decided to dress up as a witch in honor of Halloween. “I like to dress-up every Halloween” said Kramer.
Every party needs cake, which is exactly why cake, along with pizza, were provided to all who came. There were even snacks and candy that people were welcome to take.
The seniors come to the Hammonton Family Success Center as it is one of the sites for the Atlantic County Senior Nutrition Center. The center offers a free, nutritious lunch planned by a nutritionist, every week day for the seniors of Atlantic County.
All seniors in Atlantic County are welcome to attend and there is no restriction on income. It is asked that a one dollar donation be made in order to enhance the program but it is not required. It is also asked that seniors make reservations at least two days in advance.
Seniors not only enjoy a free lunch but they have the opportunity to enjoy the numerous activities that are offered. Just some of the activities include bingo, crafts and yoga. There are also volunteer opportunities available.
Atlantic County offers free transportation for those who may need help getting to all of the places they need to go, including the Senior Nutrition Center at the Hammonton Family Success Center. In order to make a reservation for transportation, please call (609) 645-5910.
The hours of operation for the Senior Nutrition Center are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday. If you are interested in attending or would like more information, please call Bridget Estrada at (609) 822-1167 ext. 121 or Olivia Bellano at (609) 567-3200 ext. 37.
