HAMMONTON - The Hammonton Branch of the Atlantic County Library System started to get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 1 with a hanging heart’s craft.
“I found the craft on Pinterest,” said senior librarian Rachel Simmons. Simmons is usually in charge of the crafts for the younger age groups and attempts to find crafts that will be good for little hands.
The hanging hearts craft that Simmons chose for this month’s Creative Crafts for Kids consisted of three hearts that were made from chenille stems, also known as pipe cleaners, which had been beaded and then connected together.
Elle Monaghan and Kendall Husta, both 5, set to work on their crafts right away. “I enjoy art and painting,” said Elle as she began to string beads along her chenille stems. Last Wednesday was a big day for Elle as she also got her very own library card.
Kendall decided that she wanted to make bracelets instead of the hanging hearts. “I’m making a bracelet for my little sister,” said Kendall, whose sister Everly could not make it to the Creative Crafts for Kids because she was sick.
The Hammonton Library Branch also offers more programs geared towards children. Not only does it offer a monthly Creative Crafts for Kids, but it also provides Toddler and Preschool Storytimes.
