Atlantic City Electric once again will be the top sponsor for the Hammonton Cancer Foundation’s Helping Our Neighbors Cancer Walk. Susan Coan, the company’s region vice president, presented a $1,500 check to foundation member Dawn Baldwin.

“Atlantic City Electric feels a close connection to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation,” said Coan. “Funds raised by the foundation often go to help families pay their electric bill. This is just another way we extend our support to customers in our local community.”

The event, set for Saturday, June 6, at the Hammonton Middle School, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, and will include a tribute wall, live entertainment, children’s activities and light refreshments. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

“It’s important to support this cause, because many of our members have had cancer strike their families, whether it is themselves, spouses, other family members or significant others.”

That’s how Lou Pantalone, the Our Lady of Mt Carmel Society president, described the organization’s reason for donating $1,000 to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation’s third annual Helping Our Neighbors.

“This is part of what the Mt. Carmel Society does. We contribute to those in need or to those who help others,” he added.

“It’s a privilege to help such a wonderful organization and it touches us when we know it is going to help people who are close to us,” Pantalone said.

The foundation is also seeking additional sponsors. The four sponsor levels are Gold: $1,000 and more; Silver $500 to $999; Bronze: $100 to $499; and Circle of Friends: $50 to $99.

Adults can register in advance for $20 and students for $15 by May 22 and will receive a T-shirt. Registrations after that date will be $20 for adults and $15 for students and will not include a shirt. Registration forms are available at hammontoncancerfoundation.org or by calling (609) 561-0343 or (609) 561-8585.

The Hammonton group will donate funds raised to the South Jersey Cancer Fund, which over the past 50 years, has helped thousands of cancer patients — including many in Hammonton — in Atlantic, Cumberland and Cape May counties by paying their medical, transportation and utility expenses. Both organizations are all-volunteer and no one receives a salary.
