The Daily Journal is calling on local nonprofit organizations to apply for thousands of dollars in grants available from the Gannett Foundation. The application deadline is Aug. 29.

The grants are an opportunity for organizations to obtain funds for initiatives that make a positive difference in our community. Recipients in past years have used grants for a wide range of needs, such as stocking food banks or providing wreaths for veterans’ graves.

Organizations must provide a copy of their certification as nonprofit by the Internal Revenue Service to be eligible. They also must serve the areas covered by The Daily Journal or its Atlantic County Weekly Newspaper Group, which is based in Hammonton.

Grants typically range from $1,000 to $2,500. Requests for specific programs or projects receive higher priority than requests for general operating funds.

An application and information on the grant process can be found at www.gannettfoundation.org.

The application and supporting material should be sent to: Tina Langley, The Daily Journal, 891 E. Oak Road, Vineland, NJ 08360. If you have questions about the program, she can be reached at (856) 563-5216 or tlangley@gannett.com.
