MONROE TWP. - A Margate woman faces charges after allegedly admitting to police she injected heroin before causing a head-on crash with a marked police car, sending the officer to the hospital, police reported.

Rebecca Calabro, 26, is charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and narcotics offenses, according to Monroe Township Police.

Near 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Calabro allegedly swerved to avoid a car slowing in front of her Hyundai Tucson, steering into oncoming traffic on Route 322, South Black Horse Pike, near mile 32. She allegedly hit the corner of a 2014 Dodge Charger, a marked police cruiser. Monroe Township Police did not name the 44-year-old officer involved in the crash.

Calabro allegedly admitted to injecting heroin that morning, police reported.

She and the officer were transported to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, police said.

The officer suffered a leg and ankle injury, according to police.
