South Jersey native finds home at Eagle Theatre
HAMMONTON – South Jersey native Jeff Coon returns home to star in “CLOSER” opening September 11 at the Eagle Theatre, 208 Vine St.
Coon is a Barrymore Award-winning actor and has appeared at The Walnut Street Theatre, Arden Theatre and Philadelphia Theatre Company. He also is Co-creator/Producer of "The Summer Club," a nightclub show featuring standards and a 17-piece Big Band. This will be Jeff’s return to the Eagle stage, after having given an unprecedented performance as FBI Agent Carl Hanratty in The Professional Regional Area Premiere of “Catch Me If You Can.”
“I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Eagle after having worked on ‘Catch Me If You Can’ earlier this year. I really believe in the quality of the work being done by the theater’s Artistic Directors, Ed Corsi and Ted Wioncek III,” said Coon. “I also sincerely appreciate the opportunities they’ve offered me to work on pieces by which I’m really inspired and challenged. There’s also something compelling for me about doing shows in an intimate space like the Eagle. It allows both the audience and the actors to have a totally different experience and relationship than in larger spaces.”
Co-Artistic Director Ed Corsi describes the award winning play as “... bold and daring. The perfect vehicle for an actor who brings as much to the table as Jeff. He is one of the very best and we are honored to have him back at the Eagle.”
Coon explained that what drew him to this unique piece was not only the opportunity to work at the Eagle again, but the writing itself. “It’s beautifully written and strangely romantic despite the emptiness that these four characters are continually looking to fill with someone else,” he said. “It’s challenging to both the actors and audience because it truthfully, and sometimes brutally, deals with the struggle we all feel to define, find, and ultimately hold on to love. In this era of modern technology and social relationships being more open and honest online is especially easier than in person.”
The Eagle Theatre has also recently installed elevated riser seating to provide prime viewing and a greater theatrical experience.
Eagle Theatre boasts a free double parking lot, an on-site Sharrott Wine Lounge and is located within walking distance of several award-winning boutiques and acclaimed dining destinations.
“CLOSER” is for mature audiences only.
