EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Heat and humidity did not keep people from coming out and enjoying the 34th annual Greek Festival held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church here over the weekend.

“I wanted to support my heritage, plus the food,” chuckled Michele Kayiales when asked what brought her out to the festival.

Visitors to the festival were able to enjoy a variety of food options. There was a tent called the Taverna, where people could order a meal and sit down. There also was pizza and an American grill, along with the traditional Greek fair of gyros and loukomades.

“This is our church, we moved a little far away, but we are back now,” said Elaine Thanasoulis on Saturday as she watched her sons and niece ride on the train at the festival.

Other rides included a giant slide, a bounce house and a mini-roller coaster during the four-day event. Visitors also were able to enjoy games, a sand art table and face painting.

“It’s a great way to get the community together,” said Brian Sacco, Parish Council president for Holy Trinity. The festival is one of the biggest fundraisers that the church sponsors each year.

There also was a table at the festival for Trinity Learning Center, a daycare onsite at the church. The Learning Center is enrolling now. It accepts children from age six weeks through kindergarten and is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (609) 653-9001 or visit
