MAYS LANDING - The Mays Landing branch of the Atlantic County Library System was a bit noisier than usual on Friday as young children enjoyed a special visit by Music Together of Galloway.

Music Together, a worldwide program used for almost 30 years, is built on the philosophy that all children are musical.

“The goal is to normalize singing and dancing,” said Rosemary Hennessy, director of Music Together of Galloway. Hennessy is a licensed director and certified teacher, who trained out of Princeton. To her students and their parents though, she is known simply as “Teacher Rosie.”

While the event at the library brought in many new faces, there also were familiar students. One such student was Abigail Hornbaker, 14 months old, who broke out into a huge smile when she saw Hennessy.

“We are return students of Teacher Rosie,” said Abigail’s mom Kellie Hornbaker. “We started coming when Abigail was five months old.”

Once all of the participants had arrived, Hennessy asked all of the students and their parents to sit on the floor in a circle. Hennessy does this so everyone can see each other’s faces and also so the parents can participate with their children.

Hennessy then started her program by going around the circle and singing an introduction song. The rest of the program included singalongs, playing musical instruments and dancing for both kids and parents.

The event was a part of special summer programing at the library. “We were trying to get some music programs,” said Diane Gottman, the children’s librarian for the Mays Landing library.

The library is not just a good place for young children during the summer, but also teenagers. “We have about 30 teens come in and volunteer for us in the summer,” said Gottman.

Hennessy’s Music Together of Galloway is located at Reformation Lutheran Church in Absecon. If you are interested in learning more about Music Together of Galloway or would like to register for classes, please visit or call (609) 748-8309.
