2017 outlook: For 2017 we hope to increase our print business along with our corporate presence, promoting that “we are more than just photos!” to highlight our various print and design services. Our new marketing department is not solely for self-promotion, we are offering advice and complimentary marketing ideas to our customers. We are committed to promoting “buying local”. 2016 review: Eye Associates was the first in South Jersey to provide the KAMRA Inlay, the long-lasting solution to reading glasses, and educated the public on this new procedure with complementary seminars. An IV Free option was added to custom cataract surgery, thus creating the anxiety free procedure Dropless IV Free Cataract Surgery. Dr. Tyson was the first on the east coast to offer the CyPass Micro-Stent for Glaucoma patients after completing the study. The new renovations to the Cherry Hill office were completed and the Eye Associates patient portal was launched so that patients may access their medical records and history within the comforts of their own home at the touch of a button. EA experienced an increase of 12 percent growth in Dropless IV Free Cataract Surgery. They feel the reason for this growth is due to the benefits of having no mess, no costly drops before or after surgery, no trips to the drug store, and no annoying needles. Dropless IV Free Cataract patients just leave it all up to their surgeons to place the drops inside the eye during surgery. For those eligible, an MKO Melt is placed under the tongue in replacement of the IV which releases the medicines necessary as it dissolves in the patient’s mouth. Tyson gave national lectures with physicians from all over the US as well as worldwide with ALCON and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been asked to teach other physicians how to provide Dropless IV Free Cataract Surgery as well as the CyPass Micro-Stent to their patients. Eye Associates increased their new patient growth again this year by 21 percent. Karl A. Holzinger MD, is no stranger to Missionary Trips where he performs cataract surgery and brings medical supplies to indigent countries. This year in February he went to Borneo jungles in Indonesia to perform Cataract Surgeries using old equipment but never-the-less getting great results. Holzinger was also the Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) instructor for a course held at the Wills Eye Surgical Center in Cherry Hill. Holzinger was also recognized by Congressman Frank LoBiondo and the Greater Chamber of Commerce in November at the annual Veterans’ Breakfast for his service in the Navy as well as the thousands of Cataract Surgeries he has performed around the world. Tyson continued to participate in the glaucoma stent studies as well as the clinical study for treatment of ocular inflammation and pain after cataract surgery. Tyson was asked to be one of the few nationally to participate in these studies.

2017 outlook: EA will be welcoming a new doctor. Alice Williams, MD (who was handpicked from Wills Eye Hospital by Tyson) will serve as the practice’s glaucoma specialist. Tyson will be participating in new studies including Glaucoma Plugs to eliminate the need for drops, a Dry Eye Study on how to keep the eyes hydrated, and an IOL Implant Study. Dr. Tyson has also been appointed as one of the first American Surgeons on the board for helping bring Stroma to the United States. Stroma is a laser procedure currently performed in Europe that changes the color of one’s iris. Eye Associates will continue to participate in community services as well as lectures and health fairs in the community to promoting eye health, procedures, and safety. They will also continue to give back to the community with volunteerism and contributions as they have since 1999. More lectures and national conferences are in store for Dr. Tyson teaching other surgeons techniques in Dropless IV Free Cataract Surgery as well as the CyPass Micro-Stent and any other studies that become FDA approved within the new year. He will also be providing a series of Webinars in the evenings to accommodate surgeons’ hectic schedules since he understands how intense the life of a surgeon can be.

2016 review: 2016 was a year of new beginnings for OLMA as we build upon Sr. Grace’s legacy by striving to achieve a whole new level of excellence — academically, spiritually and socially. On July 1, OLMA named Brooke A. Coyle as head of school. Prior to joining OLMA, Coyle worked at St. Augustine Prep, first as a member of the Math Department and then as the school’s director of college guidance and member of the Prep administrative team. As a teacher, coach and adviser, Coyle has dedicated her professional life to mentoring and enriching students through faith-based academics. Using her passion for educational excellence, coupled with her extensive experience, Coyle is leading OLMA into a new era of excellence. Through the generosity of parents, alumnae and the local business community, we’re already on our way with several enhancements to our facility. Some of these include: a brand new floor and bleachers in the gym; a fully renovated main lobby; the addition of a new faculty dining room and student lounge; and the professional landscaping of our grounds. We’ve also launched a brand new website and are in the process of upgrading our entire technology infrastructure. Academically, we’ve added a number of honors courses, invested Advanced Placement Course training for teachers, took students on the school’s first college tour, held a mock-interview day and workshop for juniors and seniors on interview and resume-writing skills. 2017 outlook: Excitement over the growth of OLMA is at an all-time high. The new year began with two OLMA students traveling with young men from St. Augustine Prep to Spain for a three-week exchange program. The Spanish students who are hosting them will spend three weeks with us in early April. Also new this year is OLMA’s Early Admissions Program. Our first round of acceptances was announced just before the holidays. The newest members of the Class of 2021 were notified by a special delivery made by OLMA faculty, staff and students. Incoming freshmen are now being accepted on a rolling admissions basis and can apply via OLMA’s website. Yet to come this year is a new Job Shadow program for juniors that will begin this spring. We are also planning a Mini-Mester program for OLMA juniors, sophomores and freshmen. This will take place in June and feature a one-week, experiential course taught by current faculty and outside experts. Plans are also in place to add three additional Advanced Placement courses to be offered in the 2017-18 school year.

2016 review: The past year was active and successful for the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA/YMCA of Vineland. The organization’s commitment to improving the health of the community was manifested in many ways. An example is Live Healthy Vineland. This is an extension of the New Jersey Partnership of Healthy Kids, which was founded in 2009 with co-directorship with the Vineland Health Department. Funding is through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Other important programs offered by our YMCA include the Y Diabetes Program, LIVESTRONG at the Y (cancer), and Darkness to Light (child protection from sexual abuse). Families enjoy the special community events offered throughout the year, ranging from Swim with Santa to Healthy Kids Day. They also appreciate the opportunities to work out together in our new Family Health and Adventure Center. The Y now has three workout areas totaling nearly 15,000 square feet. During 2016, the Y began a Togetherness initiative to “give back” to our area. Projects related to actively serving military members, the Community garden, and Impact Harvest were all begun this year.

2017 outlook: The year 2017 will mark the 90th anniversary of the YMCA in Vineland. There will be selected events throughout the year to mark this important anniversary. The YMCA will continue to promote and expand its focus of improving the health of our community. Thanks in large measure to the support of local businesses, individuals, groups, and, of course, our members, the Y’s commitment to encouraging this goal has expanded and deepened since 1927.
