Juice bar opens doors in Downtown Hammonton
HAMMONTON - It was an “easy, breezy evening” on Thursday as Downtown Hammonton enjoyed June’s Summer Wind-themed Third Thursday.
The evening began with a ribbon cutting to mark the opening of Ohana Juice Bar. Ohana is operated by Dan McAnney and his wife Marcy. The McAnneys also are pastors at local church Living Springs Global Fellowship.
“We wanted to open up a business with the church and we prayed about it,” said Dan McAnney.
The McAnneys prayed for several years about what type of business to open. The couple had a few opportunities to open up different types, but they never quite worked out or felt quite right. Then, the idea of a juice bar came to them and they knew the town did not have anything like it.
“We just had the faith we needed to do it,” said McAnney.
After a few bumps in the road, the McAnneys began work on their new juice bar last December and officially opened their doors last month. The McAnneys hope that when you walk into the juice bar you feel like family.
“Come and enjoy the family and have a good time,” he said. “We want you to have a good time and feel welcome.”
Ohana Juice Bar, located at 10 E. Central Ave., serves a variety of healthy juices, smoothies and foods. They are open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The business is closed on Sundays.
After the ribbon cutting, music could be heard playing up and down Bellevue Avenue. Musicians were not only playing at various spots throughout the downtown, but they also were playing inside Stockton University Kramer Hall for the monthly Jammonton.
“It is a great opportunity to play with other people,” said musician Walt Birbeck “The thing about music is that it is such a wonderful experience.”
Birbeck is one of several musicians who regularly come to play during Jammonton. All musicians are welcome to come and play, just as long as the instruments they bring are acoustic. Musicians also are welcome to bring along some sheet music of any songs they would like to play as the group takes turns playing the music that others have brought in. Jammonton is held on every Third Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kramer Hall.
Next month’s Third Thursday theme will be “Dog Days of Summer” and will be held on July 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about Third Thursday and other Downtown Hammonton events, please visit www.downtownhammonton.com.
