LANDISVILLE - Bellview Winery made beating the winter blues easy this past weekend with a Winter Wine Weekend.

“I think this time of year, people are looking for things to do,” said Bellview Winery owner Jim Quarella about why they decided to have a Winter Wine Weekend. The special event featured live acoustic music and special food platters.

The mild January weather allowed visitors the opportunity to not only enjoy the winery’s tasting room, but also to venture outside to sit near some fire pits or grab a table in one of several heated seating areas.

The Winter Wine Weekend also gave visitors the chance to try out some of Bellview’s wines from their Celestial series on tap. Until recently, the Celestial series had only been available in bottles.

As the name implies, each wine in the Celestial series is named after a constellation or star. However, the name Celestial also honors Bellview’s logo, which is the sun. “The sun is what makes everything happen for us,” said Jim Quarella.

While the Winter Wine Weekend may have been the draw for some visitors to Bellview on the weekend, for others the draw was to spend the day in one of their favorite spots.

“This is our hang-out spot, it is inexpensive,” laughed Christina Austin. “It’s a really nice environment.”

There are many events to look forward to this year at Bellview Winery, such as the Wine and Chocolate Weekend on Feb. 10 and 11, the Dandelion Release Party in April, a Cinco de Mayo party in May, and the Seafood Festival in August.

Yet, the new year has already brought some exciting things for Bellview Winery. The winery recently won six medals from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

“That we are winning a West Coast competition shows that we can hold our own,” smiled Scott Quarella.

Belleview won medals in:

• Chambourcin 2015

• Chardonnay 2016

• Blaufränkisch 2014

• Grüner Veltliner 2016

• Port

• Regulus

“Every year we just try to do things better and better,” said Jim Quarella.

Bellview Winery is open seven days a week —except on major holidays. Hours are Sunday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, please visit
