VINELAND – Detectives charged a city man with swiping a dirt bike from the Lilliston Honda showroom after a vehicle slammed into the front of the building, causing extensive damage.

Guillermo Veloz-Evangelista, 22, is also charged with possession of a machine gun and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Oct. 2, police responded to the North Delsea Drive dealership after someone backed a vehicle through the front of the building. Once inside, the suspect loaded the dirt bike on the vehicle and fled.

Investigators arrested Veloz-Evangelista after finding him riding the stolen dirt bike, valued at about $8,500, on the Cumberland Mall property on Dec. 18, police said. He is charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

While executing a search warrant at Veloz-Evangelista’s residence in the 400 block of East Grant Avenue, officers reported finding an assault rifle and large-capacity magazine that were not secured.

Veloz-Evangelista  was held in Cumberland County Jail pending further court action.

Detective Justin Fallucca is the lead investigator.
