ATLANTIC CITY - Interested in joining the new Atlantic City Arena Football League team — can you dance?

On March 16, the team is hosting an open call tryout at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, located at 2301 Boardwalk.

Duties: The dance team performs at home games and serves as team ambassadors at appearances and partner events.

“The ladies that will make our dance team will not only perform on the field and be a major contributor to our game day fan experience, but they will also represent us as ambassadors of our brand, said George Manias, the Atlantic City AFL chief operating officer. “We are looking for ladies that can not only dance their hearts out, but also those who want to help us impact our community.”

The dance team members will be paid per game, he said.

How to sign up:  Auditions are open to high school graduates, at least 18 years of old with dance experience. There’s a preregistration fee of $20, which may be paid at www.AtlanticCityAFL.com before 3 p.m. March 15. After that, the fee jumps to $25, payable with cash or cashier’s check only.

Audition Day: Registration begins 8 a.m. with the auditions kicking off at 9 a.m. Attire is two-piece dance wear, including midriff top, Lycra shorts and appropriate footwear. Participants will be taught the dance routine at the time of the audition.

Judging: Applicants will be reviewed on dance ability, appearance, personality and attitude. Finalists move on to a two-day boot camp and semi-finalist interviews. About 50 -100 are expected to tryout and about 20 will make the team, Manias said.

Familiar face: South Jersey native, Nicole Stephens, is the head choreographer of the dance team, and will oversee the dance team for its debut season. Dancing for more than 25 years, Stephens studied ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, and acro-gymnastics. She also brings her dance experience from multiple professional sports teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, the Atlantic City Card Sharks, and the Philadelphia KiXX.  She is a dance instructor, choreographer, and competition team director at Paul Morris DanceXplosion in Hammonton, where she has taught for the past 16 years.
