Family member charged with Ventnor slayings
VENTNOR – A family member has been charged with the murders of two women found dead in their Boardwalk condominium here.
Heather Barbera, 41, fatally beat her mother and grandmother with a nightstick during a robbery at their home in the 4800 Boardwalk complex, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office alleged Wednesday.
The victims, 67-year-old Michelle Gordon and 87-year-old Elaine Rosen, died as a result of blunt force trauma.
The victims’ bodies were found around 10:25 a.m. Sunday at 4800 Boardwalk, a 212-unit midrise building also known as Vassar Square.
Investigators learned Barbera took a bus to New York City after the murders, the prosecutor's office said.
New York City police officers arrested her Wednesday afternoon at the Port Authority bus terminal in Midtown Manhattan.
Barbera was being held in New York, pending extradition to New Jersey.
She is charged with two counts of murder, as well as robbery and possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
