The beginning of the school year got off to a wet start for many students as Tropical Storm Ida dumped several inches of rain on North Jersey Wednesday night, forcing some school districts to close.

The remnants of Ida caused severe flooding and Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency Wednesday night, urging residents to stay home.

The following schools announced they will be closed or have a delayed opening on Thursday or operating under delayed opening or remote:

Closed

  • Clifton
  • Englewood
  • Fort Lee
  • Garfield
  • Hackensack
  • Hanover Park
  • Haworth
  • Kean University
  • Livingston
  • Mendham
  • Montclair State University
  • Paterson (closed for staff)
  • Ridgefield Park 
  • Ridgewood
  • Academy of St. Elizabeth
  • Seton Hall University
  • Tenafly (all clubs, activities, athletics and meetings cancelled)
  • West Morris
