MONROE TWP. - An Atlantic County woman was killed Thursday night after losing control of her SUV near a sharp bend on Coles Mill Road, police said.

The vehicle struck a utility pole guy wire and several trees before flipping over and coming to a stop about 120 feet from the road, according to the Monroe Township Police Department.

Brigid Bartley, 54, of Hammonton, had to be extricated from her 2015 Honda CRV after the crash, which happened around 10:15 p.m. Bartley, who had been driving east on Coles Mill Road near the Old Black Horse Pike intersection, died at the scene, police said.

A number of people called 911 in the moments after the crash to report a vehicle fire with at least one person trapped inside. Police and fire crews responding to the crash scene near the Hospitality Creek Campground found the overturned SUV but no fire.
