A few South Jersey families have a little extra reason to celebrate this new year.

Their babies were the first born at local hospitals in 2019. One of them was born just a half-hour after midnight and another about a half-hour before the close of Jan. 1.

Meet South Jersey's newest residents (information varies because of privacy regulations):

Inspira Medical Center Vineland: Eliza was born at 3:12 a.m., weighing 5 pounds, 3 ounces; and measuring 18.5 inches. Her family lives in Gloucester County.

Jefferson Washington Township Hospital: Salice Paris Woodley was born at 6:04 a.m., weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces; and measuring 20 inches. She is the first child for Mays Landing residents Brianna Rodriguez and Dennis Woodley.

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center: Susannah DeSmedt was born at 11:24 p.m., weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces. She'll go home from the hospital to Haddon Township with her parents Emily and Kevin DeSmedt, and big sisters Marguerite, 5; and Louisa, 2, who were also born at Lourdes.

Virtua Voorhees: Joe was born at 4:24 a.m., weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces. His family lives in Pennsauken.

Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly: Dalton was born at 12:30 a.m, weighing 9 pounds, 12 ounces. The newborn already has the nickname “Tank" for obvious reasons. Dalton's family lives in Washington Township.

While the families might have just missed the cutoff for a 2018 tax deduction, they can look forward to celebrating their children's birthdays with fireworks and a parade every year.
