Non-Public B South first round
Holy Spirit 8, St. Joseph 1 — St. Joseph’s Joe McGough knocked in the team’s only run in the first inning as the seventh-seeded Wildcats fell to No. 10 Holy Spirit. Teammate C.J. LaFragola tripled and scored a run in the loss.
The Spartans scored four runs in both the third and seventh innings to eliminate the Wildcats, who end the year with a 15-8 mark.
Track and field
Non-Public B South Championships — Ben Mitchell won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team as the Wildcats won a sectional championship at Egg Harbor Township.
There may have been some standout performances, but every Wildcat contributed to the Non-Public B South title, as all 12 members of the squad earned points. St. Joseph finished with 111 team points, 24 ahead of second-place St. Rose.
Mitchell won the 400 hurdles (57.37 seconds), the high jump (6 feet) and the long jump (22-31/2). He was also part of the winning 4x400 team (3:29.82) along with Jordan Davis, Ricky Quirindongo and A’Laam Horne.
Caleb Williams also had a big weekend, winning the 100 (10.76), taking second in the 200 (21.91) and finishing fifth in the long jump (20-41/4). He was also on the winning 4x100 team (42.88) with Rocco Ordille, Demore Mewborn and Horne.
Ordille finished right behind Williams in the 100 (10.78) for second place, and Eric Colon was second in the high jump (5-10). Davis was third in the 400 (51.2) and fourth in the long jump (20-63/4) and the triple jump (40-6).
Mewborn was fourth in the 200 (23.78). Quirindongo was sixth in the 800 (2:05.5) and was part of the 4x800 relay team (9:02.09) that took fourth. Also part of the 4x800 team was Evan Fallon, Tyler Tartaglia and Dominic Tartaglia.
For the girls, Olivia Craig finished ninth in the 200 (28.09).
Coming up — The State Non-Public B Meet will be held on May 29-30, also at Egg Harbor Township.
