BUENA VISTA – St. Joseph High School's football team proved why it's the No. 1 team in South Jersey here on Friday night.
The Wildcats (3-0) thumped fourth-ranked St. Augustine (1-2) by a 30-8 count.
Jada Byers continued his superb season with 155 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He opened the score with a 14-yard toss through the air. Byers also ran an interception return back 76 yards for six in third frame.
St. Joe held a 14-0 lead at half and built it to 22-0 with Byers' pick-and-run plus a Nate Johnson two-point conversion. The Hermits scratched the board with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jaylen DeCoteau to Chris Allen and the conversion that followed contained the same pair.

On the next possession, Johnson snagged a third-down attempt from quarterback Jayden Shertel and raced 68 yards to cap the score at 30-8.
► Byers' pass to Keshon Griffin just 5 minutes, 55 seconds into the game put the road team on top, where it would stay.
► Byers' interception return, caught on an overthrow on the right hash and with plenty of green in front, the junior speedster found the pylons for his 14th touchdown overall in the 2018 campaign.

► Byers: The most dynamic player in South Jersey proved it again in a big game. He had several plays that dropped jaws, perhaps the most incredible came on a long fourth-down conversion for score in the second quarter that ended up called back for a hold.
► Griffin: A tall target, he hauled in Byers' touchdown pass and intercepted another on the next series of downs.
► Johnson: Intercepted a pass and racked up 109 total yards a score.
